Collection of Black Metal, Death Metal & NSBM I Bought For $1000

satanic-warmaster-worms-cd

In the video below is a collection of about 350 black metal, death metal, and NSBM (National Socialist Black Metal) I bought from a black guy for $1000 (shipping included).

A few months ago, a collector in New Jersey hit me up about a small- to medium-sized black metal CD collection he was looking to sell. I asked him a basic question about it. He asked if I bought cassettes or other metal swag, which I do. He added some cassettes and black metal tapestries to what he was selling, and I added some money to the deal.

When it came to shipping, there was a small misunderstanding about how to use USPS Media Mail, so I gave him a quick call to walk him through it. During that phone call, it became obvious to me that the seller was Black. Of course, race doesn’t matter to me, but you’ll see how this plays into the story next.

It had been a bit of time since I fished the quote on this collection. When it arrived, I totally forgot how much NSBM was in it, including such “racist” bands as Goatmoon, Grand Belial’s Key, Clandestine Blaze, and others. I do not censor or “cancel” bands based on ideology and sell everything from the furthest left (Dead Kennedys, Aus Rotten) to the hardest of the right (Dark Fury, Der Sturmer).

Highlights From This Collection

There was a lot of great stuff in this collection, but here are some of the highlights.

Satanic Warmaster / Archgoat – Lux Satanae CD

Satanic Warmaster / Archgoat – Lux Satanae CD 2016 Hells Headbangers – HELLS130

Satanic Warmaster / Archgoat – Lux Satanae CD 2016 Hells Headbangers – HELLS130 – This split with Satanic Warmaster and Archgoat is easily one of the most sought-after black metal CDs released in the last ten years. I’m not sure why Hell’s Headbangers hasn’t repressed/reissued this release, since they could be selling thousands of these things. The limited quantity works for me because it caused aftermarket prices to skyrocket.

Value = $100

Immortal – Diabolical Fullmoon Mysticism CD

Immortal – Diabolical Fullmoon Mysticism CD 1992 Osmose OPCD 007 [1st Press] *FRThis CD has been reissued many times, and most pressings aren’t worth that much. In light of how big Immortal would eventually become in the black metal world, first pressings are worth a bunch. The disc itself contains “Made in Germany” and “GEMA” markings, which are not present on any other pressings. The 5th track is misspelled on the disc and back cover (“Cold Winds Of Feneral Dust”). In the booklet, the printed title is the correct one (Cold Winds Of Funeral Dust).

Insane Collection of Over 2300 Rare Black/Death Metal CDs I Scored For $8000

The-Most-Insane-Collection-of-Over-2300-Ultra-Rare-BlackDeath-Metal-CDs-I-Scored-For-8000

Check out the video below to see one of my best finds ever. I picked up a collection of more than 2,300 super-rare black and death metal CDs from a collector in Oregon.

A few months ago, the seller got in touch and sent me photos of over 2,000 CDs he had collected. The pictures gave me a good idea of the music styles and years. About 80% of it was black metal from the late 1990s to around 2012. Some of the labels were JBL America, No Fashion, Head Not Hound, Osmose, and No Colours, among others. There were virtually no major-label releases of stuff like Van Halen, System of a Down, or Iron Maiden. From his description, I could tell he had some great stuff, so I offered $8,000 to buy the collection, and he agreed.

The Trip

He didn’t want to ship the collection, so we decided to travel and meet halfway in Lodi, California, just outside Stockton. It was about a five-hour drive.

I left Los Angeles around 10 PM the night before, drove up to Lodi, and checked into a hotel. Lodi seems like a small, quiet town, but there are quite a few homeless people and drug users around. I was a little worried that my truck might get broken into.

The next morning, we met near the interstate. We chatted for a few minutes, and I took a quick look through the CDs in the bins. I agreed to pay him and sent the money through Venmo, since we weren’t doing the deal by mail. We didn’t have to worry about PayPal’s buyer protection because we were handling everything in person.

I didn’t get a chance to look through the CDs until I got home, and was amazed by how many rare albums I found. There were lots of first pressings from Mayhem, Burzum, Darkthrone, and plenty of other lesser-known bands that are just as valuable.

You’ll notice there was also a fair amount of NSBM in the collection. I don’t get too worked up about black metal bands with extreme views. I believe in free speech and carry releases from all sides, from the far left to the far right. Honestly, when you listen to a black metal CD, you usually can’t make out the lyrics, and you wouldn’t know if it was NSBM or a Christian band unless you already knew the band.

The collection was so big that I couldn’t fit everything into one video for my YouTube channel, so I split it into two parts. I still haven’t had time to go through everything, and have about half left to sort through.

The Highlights

There was a ton of amazing stuff in this haul. Here are some of the highlights.

Burzum ‎– Aske CD 1993, Deathlike Silence Productions ‎– anti-mosh 005 – This CD was in the collection and in perfect condition. It is easily the most valuable CD I’ve ever acquired. Darkthrone – Transilvanian Hunger CD 1994 Fierce Recordings – 9086-11060-2 – first pressing US contained the now infamous phrase “Norsk Arisk Black Metal” which translates from Norwegian into “pure Aryan black metal”. This caused some controversy and was removed on subsequent pressings. The band claimed it had nothing to do with far-right politics and that it was simply “pure black metal”.

Killer CD Collection of Rare Iron Maiden / Import Black Metal

Killer CD Collection of Extremely Rare Iron Maiden Import Black Death Metal

The video below shows an incredible collection of rare Iron Maiden and even rarer black metal. I picked this up from a guy in Texas whose father recently passed away and was for sale by family. Sadly, this is how I encounter more and more sellers when I buy heavy metal LP and CD collections.

There were a couple of stand-out things about this collection.

Rare Unofficial Iron Maiden CDs

The first was a crazy selection of sealed Iron Maiden bootlegs. Ten CDs recorded from the Legacy of The Beast Tour 2019 in various cities were sealed, and some very impressive artwork included that I could have sworn was painted by Derek Riggs himself.

IRON MAIDEN LEGACY OF THE BEST CD COVER
IRON MAIDEN LEGACY OF THE BEST CD BACK COVER

Unfortunately, these Iron Maiden CDs are unofficial and can’t be sold in my eBay store, but you can pick them up from me directly if you contact me. I will give you a great deal on the whole lot.

Rare Blackmoon Records Black Metal CD

Next up is the extremely rare Blackmoon Records from Poland. Like the Iron Maiden, all of these CDs are technically “unofficial,” but you can get away with selling these on eBay because of bands like Horna, Moonblood, and Sargeist. One interesting thing about Moonblood is that even though they are a legendary black metal band, everything they released until 2014 was a bootleg of demo recordings.

MOONBLOOD DWELLING IN DARKNESS CD
MOONBLOOD MORBID CRIES FROM A FORGOTTEN KINGDOM

When I was a kid, my parents only listened to very lame music like Barbra Streisand. Props to this guy for listening to some very based black metal and killer Iron Maiden. While it is very sad that this true metal warrior has moved on to Valhalla, his music will live on.

Do You Have A Collection Like This To Sell?

I am always looking to buy collections like this, no matter where you are in the Uniited States or the world.

How To Spot A Fake Yellow Bathory LP (BMLP-666-1)

Bathory- Bathory LP 1984 Black Mark Production BMLP 666-1

The self-titled Bathory LP (Bathory – Bathory LP 1984 Black Mark Production – BMLP 666-1) with the “yellow goat” album cover is considered one of the “holy grail” scores for heavy and black metal record collectors the globe over. But, unfortunately, it is also one of the most counterfeited records out there because of its value. So let’s find out how not to get fooled into buying a fake, or if you don’t have thousands to spend — what a replica is worth.

Why Is This Album So Valuable?

The first album from Bathory is a landmark album from the metal genre. While it sounds recorded in a garage, it became the template for countless black metal bands afterward. The first thousand copies were pressed independently on Quarthon’s Black Mark Productions with a gold-colored goat on the front cover before being picked up by Combat and Under One Flag for broader distribution. The first press with a yellow goat can fetch $5,000 or some for an authentic copy.

FUN FACT: The original goat was supposed to be gold, but due do budget issues, the fledgling Black Mark Productions label had to settle for yellow.

How To Spot A Fake Bathory Album

The iconic artwork for this album is very simple. Therefore there are some very convincing knockoffs available in various markets. Listed below are the main things to be looking for:

  • Examine the dead wax or the “runout matrix” on the album. It is the engraving in the vinyl after the playing surface. The engraving in a real copy should read as follows on Side A (“Darkness”): 840905GP with BMLP 666 1 A PD-CR Pentagram image] [666 image in pyramid shape] and then on Side B will have this etching 840905GP BMLP 666 1 B PD-CR [Cross image]
  • The most prolific bootlegs came out in Europe in the mid-1990s. The most common runouts are 666-1, or you may see some copies with nothing in the dead wax at all.
  • Most of the original pressings came with a printed inner sleeve. However, these can also be faked. Also, some authentic copies may be short an inner sleeve if the original owner lost it.
  • If the album looks “too new” you should look more carefully. Remember that this album came out in 1984 and is 37 years old at this point. You should expect to see some wear.
  • If the color looks “wrong”, it is likely a fake. This is a common problem among cheap bootlegs.

Marketplace Safety

Despite how rare this album is and eBay’s policy to not allow the sale of counterfeit albums, there always seem to be 2-3 copies available for $2200-$2500 at any given time. Most likely, they are not authentic, but here is how you stay safe if you want to spend big money.

  • Contact the seller and inquire about the runout matrix. If they don’t respond or refuse to provide it, you should hard pass. You can also request they provide pictures, though they can be difficult to see.
  • Whether on Discogs or eBay, look for a reputable seller that has many reviews and a lot of items for sale — not someone who could pack up and disappear overnight.
  • If the seller does not accept returns, you should not buy from them.

Album Artwork

As I said, this iconic album artwork is quite basic. Here are some pictures from one of the common European bootleg pressings. Notice how tough it is to tell if it is fake or authentic.

How Much Is A Yellow Goat Bootleg Worth?

If you want to have a yellow goat Bathory, but don’t feel like forking out two grand, it is totally understandable. If you can get past the moral dilemma of not paying the Quarthon estate, you can get replica copies for 50 bucks, sometimes less.

The Top 10 Most Expensive Metal CDs Of 2020 We’ve Encountered

top 10 metal cds most expensive

This list is compiled from CDs acquired while buying metal CD collections in the year 2020. It is by no means a comprehensive list of every metal CD out there; these are just ones we have first-hand experience with. The values we had assigned are based on what we have sold them for and are not an aggregate.

1. Urn ‎– 666 Megatons CD 2006 No Sign Of Life ‎– NSOL001

1. Urn ‎– 666 Megatons CD 2006 No Sign Of Life ‎– NSOL001

Urn ‎– 666 Megatons CD 2006 No Sign Of Life ‎– NSOL00 – the special edition from this Finish thrash/black metal band that includes the DVD is RARE. Urn was a cool proto-Black Metal sound similar to “Show NoMercy” era Slayer – the full edition, which includes a live DVD, is almost impossible to find and goes for north of 100 bucks on a regular basis.

Sold 10/1 $159.00

2. The Black ‎– The Priest Of Satan CD 1994 Necropolis Records ‎NR 003

2. The Black ‎– The Priest Of Satan CD 1994 Necropolis Records ‎NR 003

The Black ‎– The Priest Of Satan CD 1994 Necropolis Records ‎NR 003 – This CD has been re-issued several times, including more recently on Osmose Productions – if you can find the original on Necropolis Records, it can be worth a pretty penny.

3. Swans ‎– Swans Are Dead CD 1998 Young God Records ‎– YG03

Swans ‎– Swans Are Dead CD 1998 Young God Records ‎– YG03 – Although The Swans are not technically a metal band, it is quite common to see their brand of gothic rock turning up in the collections we buy. The original pressing of their CDs is very hard to come by, and reissues aren’t that common either, making almost every CD in their catalog quite valuable.

Sold 8/8 – $79.95

4. Ingested – The Surreption CD 2012 Siege of Amida Records

4. Ingested - The Surreption CD 2012 Siege of Amida Records $99.95

Ingested – The Surreption CD 2012 Siege of Amida Records – I will be honest: when I first saw this one, I thought it might be a fluke, but upon some investigation, copies of those are really scarce and sell for north of $100 on Discogs on a monthly basis. It is also worth noting that Ingested sounds like a $99 per CD band; they play some ridiculously tight technical death metal and are one of my new favorites.

Sold 12/29 – $99.95

5. Xibalba – Ah Dzam Poop Ek CD 2005 Guttural Records ‎– CDGR002

5. Xibalba – Ah Dzam Poop Ek CD 2005 Guttural Records ‎– CDGR002

Xibalba – Ah Dzam Poop Ek CD 2005 Guttural Records ‎– CDGR002 Mexico – the original pricing from Mexico only lists eight tracks; there are later reissues, but if you can find the first one, it is quite valuable.

Sold 7/11 – $74.99

6. Baphomet – Death In The Beginning CD 2012 Sevared Records ‎– SR-216 $74.95

6. Baphomet – Death In The Beginning CD 2012 Sevared Records ‎– SR-216 $74.95

7. Devourment ‎– Molesting The Decapitated CD 1999 United Guttural UGR 005

7. Devourment ‎– Molesting The Decapitated CD 1999 United Guttural UGR 005

Devourment ‎– Molesting The Decapitated CD 1999 United Guttural UGR 005 – I was actually surprised that this one didn’t sell for more; this is the original version of this death metal classic from this brutal Texas-based outfit. Beware, there are many bootlegs floating around of this release.

Sold 8/9 $74.95

8. Suffocation – Effigy of the Forgotten/Pierced from Within CD 2003 Roadrunner

8. Suffocation - Effigy of the Forgotten/Pierced from Within CD 2003 Roadrunner

Suffocation – Effigy of the Forgotten/Pierced from Within 2x CD 2003 Roadrunner (2 From The Vault Series) – almost all of the CDs from Roadrunner’s discontinued “2 From The Vault” series fetch a pretty penny. Some other big ones to look for are Obituary and Exhorder.

Sold 7/7 – $74.95

9. Ancient Wisdom – For Snow Covered The Northland CD 1996 Avantgarde Music

9. Ancient Wisdom - For Snow Covered The Northland CD 1996 Avantgarde Music

Ancient Wisdom – For Snow Covered The Northland CD 1996 Avantgarde Music – This CD from an obscure but extremely talented Italian progressive black metal band is extremely hard to find, not to mention the music is amazing. These guys should’ve been much bigger!

Sold 6/6/ – $69.95

10. Amebix – No Sanctuary: The Spiderleg Recordings CD 2008 Revolver USA

10. Amebix - No Sanctuary: The Spiderleg Recordings CD 2008 Revolver USA

Amebix – No Sanctuary: The Spiderleg Recordings CD [Digipak] 2008 Revolver USA – Although this one might fall more into the crust punk genre, Ambix is still quite popular among the metal crown. This gym was in wider distribution on Alternative Tentacles, but if you can find the original, it’s worth quite a bit.

SOLD 11/11 $66.95

Arcturus ‎– Constellation LP 1997 Nocturnal Art Productions ‎ECLIPSE006 – 1st Press Rare

Arcturus ‎– Constellation LP 1997 Nocturnal Art Productions ‎ECLIPSE006

The Arcturus “Constellation” was released in a very limed run of just 500 copies in 1997. The first 500 copies are hand-numbered, and includes a black and white poster. The first pressing copies of this album are very rare and go for north of $300 on Discogs. From time to time, you can pick up a copy on eBay, but not often.

Arcturus’s style is quite different from most Noweiegen black metal bands. It includes elements of power metal, has some early keyboard/symphonic influences. This release featured Garm on vocals and Samoth on guitar, which was the line-up that recorded the “Constellation” mini-album. It was released on Nocturnal Art Productions in 1994. Samoth left the band in 1995 after an arrest for church burnings. Here is a selection from Youtube…

Bathory – Return of the Darkness and Evil 1992 Produced by Quorthon – Black Mark Records

BATHORY BLACK METAL BAND QUORTHON

The Return of Darkness and Evil was the second album from Bathory and, what many can argue, also the most evil. Legend says the album was recorded after just one practice in a drunken stupor, and by the sound tightness and out-of-time drum track, I bet that is probably true.

Nevertheless, that album has gone down to be one of the most influential black metal albums of all time, and some say the best.

Venom vs Venom Inc? Classic Album “Black Metal” 1982 – Who Would Win In A Fight?

venom black metal cover

These days there are 2 Venoms: Venom and Venom Inc: Which One Is The Real McCoy?

Venom was formed in 1979 in Newcastle, England. 1982 they released their groundbreaking “Black Metal” album. Many credit Venom as being the first back metal band. Venom’smusic was more primitive than the fancy black metal bands of today. Their sound almost punk or like Motorhead.

  • While the exact details are murky. In 2003 Chronos tried to reunite the original venom line-up but was turned now.
  • Cronos’s real name is Conrad Thomas Lant and retains the rights to the Venom name.
  • Chrono’s plays fretless bass on the early Venom albums, which made the band sound even more chaotic and sloppy. This is what I call the “bathory effect“.
  • Mantas and Abaddon continue to Venom Inc.
  • Demolition Man replaced Chronos in on bass/vocals. He tours and recorded with Venom Inc.
  • Chrono appeared on Dave Grohl’s Probot album which also includes members of Celtic Frost, Trouble, Motorhead, King Diamond, and VoiVod.
  • Most music critics hate Venom.
