Misfits ‎- Misfits CD 1986 Plan 9 – PL9-CD1

The original CD pressings were done in Japan and Austria. Since 1988 (when the album was reissued), pressings have been done in the US. This album was initially intended to be a CD-only release but was reissued after it was bootlegged onto LP. The CD format contains pictures not available in other formats.

The image on the back of the CD insert and record sleeve is a photograph of Glenn Danzig superimposed onto a reversed mirror-image photo of the Collection II album cover. Originally an untitled album, this release is now advertised as Collection I or Collections. The picture on the inside of the CD booklet is the distorted Beware cover photo that was used as a promotional band photo in 1979

What Happened To Zoetrope? – Svitek Ministry / Barry Stern (Life Of Crime)

Chicago Thrash Band Zoetrope: Where Were They Ever?

Zoetrope was a thrash metal band from Chicago. The group was formed in 1976 by Barry Stern (drums/vocals), Kevin Michael Rasofsky, aka Kevin Michael (guitar), and Calvin “Willis” Humphrey (bass) as teenagers. The band signed Combat Records in 1984. Their first LP was Amnesty in 1985. In 1987 they out a second album, “A Life of Crime,” with producer Randy Burns (Megadeth, Nuclear Assault).

Some Zoetrope Facts

During the recording, their original guitarist Kevin Michael was replaced by Louis Svitek.
Louis Svitek went on to play with (M.O.D.) and Ministry.
Barry Stern played with the doom metal band Trouble after the band broke up.
Barry Stern died from complications from hip-replacement surgery in 2005.
Louis Svitek is now co-owner of the rap label/recording studio WuLi Records.

Everything You Wanted To Know About The Band Possessed, but Were Afraid To Ask!

Possessed is a thrash/death metal band formed in 1983 in San Fransico. They are widely credited with inventing the term “Death Metal”. The band’s classic album is “Seven Churches” came out in 1985. Their subsequent albums, “Eyes Of Horror” and “Beyond The Gates” are also quite good.

Some Interesting Possessessed Facts:

Rather than regurgitating info on their Wikipedia page, here are some interesting facts you probably don’t know:

Metal Blade Records passed on Possessed (even they appeared on Metal Massacre). Combat Records would later sign the band.
Guitarist Larry Lalonde (who played on all three albums) went on to be the guitarist for Primus. Larry met Les Claypool in Blind Illusion, not long after Primus was formed.
Possessed is credited by many for coining the term death metal, which is a song on 7 Churches.
Jeff Becerra’s guttural vocal style is considered the first “death metal vocals” – which would later become a staple for bands like Obituary.
The “Eyes Of Horror” LP was produced by guitar virtuoso Joe Satriani.
Singer Jeff Becerra was shot in a robbery in 1989 and paralyzed for life.
Jeff Becerra still performs under the name “Possessed” as the sole original member. On stage, he sings in a wheelchair.
Larry Lalonde has been a staunch vegetarian since 1983.

ONSLAUGHT VS POSSESSED – WHO INVENTED THE TERM “DEATH METAL”?

UK-based thrash metal band Onslaught’s original release, “Power From Hell,” had a hardcore punk sound compared to their 1987 follow-up, “The Force“. This was mainly due to the more guttural vocal sound of the original singer, Paul Mahoney. In late 1985, Paul Mahoney was replaced by Sy Keeler, who joined the band as the new lead singer. The film ” The Force ” was released in 1986. The band has a much more Slayer-influenced sound than the early Discharge-sounding material.

ONSLAUGHT IS A METAL BAND THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN BIGGER

Sy Keeler’s vocal style was more akin to Rob Alford — a typical high-pitched 80’s singing style popular in 1985. That is why fans and critics alike consider “Power from Hell” to be superior to any of the band’s subsequent work.

The Death Metal Controversy

The Power From Hell LP was released in February 1985. It is disputed whether Onslaught or Possessed (San Francisco) coined the term “Death Metal.” Onslaught had a demo ‘Death Metal’ in 1984, Possessed has a song of the same name a Seven Churches.

Reunion In 2006

In 2005 the band reformed and continues to release albums and play shows sporadically, mostly at metal festivals in Europe

Kreator – Endless Pain LP – Noise Records 1985 – Some Thing You Probably Didn’t Know!

KREATOR ENDLESS PAIN LP 1985

Endless Pain was the debut LP by German thrash metal legends Kreator. The production on the original was very raw and unpolished. The band was obviously very young and clearly imitating other early extreme metal bands like Venom.

Endless Pain was released in 1985 on Noise Records.
Millie Petrozza and Ventor are both “lead singers” on the album.
The album is classified as black metal or thrash metal, as it combines elements of both, along with the sloppiness and aggression of early punk and hardcore.

The retro popularity of the album, along with the rebound in interest in thrash metal vinyl, makes Endless Pain a frequent target of bootleggers, as there are several “unofficial” versions out there, none of which the band receives royalties from. This is what the art should look like.

What Happened To Hirax?

Hirax, Katon W. De Pena, Raging Violence and Beyond

Raging Violence was the first official Hirax album, Metal Blade, which appeared with their first full-length in 1985. Hirax was Katon W. De Pena (vocals), Scott Owen (guitar), Gary Monardo (bass), and John Tabares (drums).

In 1986, John Tabares left the band and was replaced by Eric Brecht (D.R.I’s vocalist Kurt Brecht’s brother). After that, they released a second LP, “Hate, Fear, and Power” (16 minutes / eight tunes). Later, the band released the live album “Blasted In Bangkok” in 1987.

Be that as it may, with strains and frustrations in the band, De Pena chose to leave and form another group with Gene Hoglan (former Dark Angel drummer), and Ron McGovney (former Metallica bassist). They called themselves Phantasm. After a brief tour with Nuclear Assault, they separated. In 1989, after De Pena left Phantasm, the substitution was Paul Baloff (former Exodus frontman), not long after the band split.

The band “reformed” in 2013 with Katon W. De Pena, the only original member, and continues to record and tour to this day

Dark Angel – We Have Arrived 1985

We Have Arrived has been reissued at least two times. In 1986, it was re-released by the French recording label Axe Killer in a limited edition of 2,000 copies. It was re-released in 1997 by Axe Killer. The label on the plastic wrap says this is a remastered edition, but there is no indication in the booklet. We Have Arrived is the only Dark Angel album to feature Jack Schwartz on drums, as Gene Hoglan replaced him as their drummer on subsequent albums.
