Killer Rare Thrash Metal CD/LP Collection I Scored In LA For $600

This month’s update will be short and sweet. In the video below is a walk-through of a collection of rare thrash metal I bought locally in Los Angeles.

It consisted of six LPs and around 230 CDs ranging from the golden age 1980s metal up to more recent third wave thrash bands like Toxic Holocaust. The seller, who is an awesome guy I’d seen at metal shows over the years, brought the crate of CDS by my store in Hollywood. I asked him what he wanted, and he said $600 which I happily paid.

They sat in the receiving area for over a month before I finally went through them. If it had been last month, a rogue employee would have stolen over a quarter of them.

A Breakdown Of This Haul:

Although this collection was far from huge, there were a large number of albums that were worth well over $50.

Nuclear Assault – Handle With Care LP

Nuclear Assault – Handle With Care LP 1989 In-Effect [SEALED] [1ST PRESS ] – The seller told me this LP was a reissue, but it’s first press and in great shape.

Value = $125

Ulysses Siren – Above The Ashes CD

Ulysses Siren – Above The Ashes CD 2003 Relentless Records – RR0003000 – Released in 2003, this CD is a compilation of the band’s ’85 and 87 demos and is rare as hell.

Value = $100

Paradox – Heresy CD

Paradox – Heresy CD 2007 Metal Mind Productions – MASS 1047 [Gold Disc Digipak] – This reissue from the now defunct Metal Mind Records (Poland) is worth even more than a 1st press. Looks for all prices on the Metal Mind catalog to spike in the coming years.

Value = $60

Thanatos – Emerging from the Netherworlds CD

Thanatos – Emerging from the Netherworlds CD 1990 Shark Records – 015 [Germany] – Killer death/trash that showed up on the scene just a hare too late. Great record!

Value = $60

Anvil Bitch – Rise To Offend CD

Anvil Bitch – Rise To Offend CD 2003 New Renaissance – NRCD-126 [NUMBERED] – Though this album came out of vinyl in the 80s it never saw a first press of CD till 2003.

Insane Collection of Mega-Rare / Obscure First Press Thrash Metal CDs

The video below is a complete walk-thru of a great collection of thrash metal CDs I bought from a widow selling them because her husband recently passed.

Unfortunately, I get too many collections this way these days. While it is always sad when a fallen metal brother passes on, it is good that their music can carry on. More importantly, I pay generously for quality metal CD collections so the family can get decent money for what they left behind.

No To The Awesome Thrash Metal

I buy collections of every metal subgenre; most I get are death metal and black metal, but I rarely run into a collection of my favorite subgenre: THRASH METAL (as you can probably guess by the name of this website). I grew up in the 1980s during the heyday of bands like Slayer, Kreator, Sodom, and Exodus. Thrash metal was king from 1985-1989 before dying a slow death in the early 90s under the weight of grunge.

The CDs in this collection consist of around 50% reissues and 50% original pressings. Many of the CDs in this collection came from some of the more obscure (to very obscure) bands that populated the later years of the thrash scene. Even many reissues are limited pressings of 1000 or less on small labels like Divebomb Records.

Highlights From This Collection

Below are some of the standout pieces from this collection.

Equinox – The Way To Go CD

Equinox—The Way To Go CD 1990 RCA—PD 74669 [Norway] — This release is likely a tax write-off for RCA. Many bootlegs of the CD exist; there are no reissues, and originals are exceptionally rare and very expensive.

VALUE: $150

Cyclone – Inferior To None CD

Cyclone—Inferior To None CD 1991 Justice Records—JR-CD02-90 [Belgium]—This obscure Belgian thrash metal band is beloved by hardcore thrash fans. The original vinyl pressing came out in 1990, and this 1991 press is the first pressing on CD.

VALUE: $100

Exhorder – Slaughter in the Vatican CD

Screenshot

Exhorder—Slaughter in the Vatican CD 1990 Roadrunner RO 9363-2 [Original]—This debut CD from New Orleans-based thrashers Exhoder is thrash metal done as well as it can be. The band followed this release with 1992’s “The Law” before breaking up for nearly 30 years and returning in 2020.

VALUE: $100

Forced Entry – As Above So Below CD

Screenshot

Forced Entry – As Above So Below CD 1991 Relativity – 88561-2024-2 – The second release from one of those great thrash metal bands that came too late. It is completely out of print, with no reissues, and costs an arm and a leg.

VALUE: $90

Equinox – Xerox Success CD

Equinox – Xerox Success CD 1992 RCA – PD 75210 [Original] – Another thrash metal band that came too late to be the next Metallica only to become another tax write-off for RCA

VALUE: $90

ZnoWhite – Act Of God CD

ZnoWhite – Act Of God CD 1988 Roadracer – RR9587 – This female-fronted band split up shortly after this album when vocalist Debbie Gunn returned to her former band Sentinal Beast.
