Overkill’s First Journey Into “Major Label Success”
Taking Over is the second album by Overkill. It was released in 1987 on Atlantic/Megaforce in the US and Noise International in Europe. The album is Overkill’s last with drummer Rat Skates. He left the band in 1987 and was replaced by Sid Falck. Taking Over was the first major label release through on Atlantic. Overkill remained on Atlantic up to W.F.O. (1994).
Some Fun “Taking Over” Facts
It was Overkill’s first release to chart, reaching position 191 on the Billboard 200, and included classics like “Wrecking Crew” and “In Union We Stand” still played at nearly every Overkill show.
Rat Skates decided to leave the band, shortly after touring to support the album, citing a number of creative differences.
Bob “Sid” Falck, a former member of Paul Dianno’s band, would replace him. The band stopped touring and only played locally around New Jeresey and New York. They also began wring new material together.

The 3rd Album By Possessed Produced By Joe Satrirni
POSSESSED THE EYE OF HORROR was released in 1987. It was produced by guitarist Joe Satriani. This was the last album for 30 years. The original line up never reformed. Not long after the release of Eyes Of Horror Jeff Becerra was a shot in a robbery attempt and was left paralyzed from the neck down. Not long after, the original line-up went their own ways.
What Happened Mike Sus, Larry Lalonde and Mike Torrao?
Mike Sus went back to school and obtained a degree in psychology and was never active in music again. Guitarist Mike Torrao joined Infanticide, but they never released any songs publicly and broke up in 1997. He now works as a landscaper and plays music only in his spare time.
Jeff Becerra continues to tour and record under the name Possessed with an entirely new group on musicians. In 2019 the new line-up released the shockingly good “Revelations Of Oblivion” which has become both a critical and commercial success.
Very courageously, Jeff contains to record and front the band from a wheel chair and in my opinion does a fantastic job.
“The Eyes of Horror”
“Swing of the Axe”
“Storm in My Mind”
In 1987 Possessed Was The Following:
